Sensory Nerds offers community, learning, and support for neurodivergent adults navigating sensory processing differences, with a focus on self-understanding, advocacy, and sustainable growth.
American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA)
Sarah collaborated on two research posters that were accepted for the 2025 annual AOTA conference. “Living With Sensory Processing Differences & Eating Disorders: A Qualitative Study” was a collaboration with Dr. Catherine Cavaliere and her students at Dominican University. “Beyond Words: Insights into Neurodivergent Adults’ Communication, Relationships, and Self-Expression through Photovoice” was a collaboration with Elsie Pollari and her students at Elmhurst University.

In 2025, Sarah was the keynote speaker for DUNY’s Pi Theta Epsilon Honor Society induction ceremony. Sarah was also a guest lecturer for the graduate level occupational therapy program at DUNY in 2018. She lectured on addressing mental health and sensory processing differences in adolescent populations.
First Presbyterian Church of Libertyville, IL
Sarah led a combined workshop for the middle and high school youth groups at FPCL in 2025. The workshop, “Creating Your Reality with Intention” was about embracing differences, and how sensation can be used to improve self-awareness and self-regulation.
New York State Occupational Therapy Association
Sarah collaborated on a research poster that was accepted to the 2024 annual NYSOTA conference. “Living With Sensory Processing
Differences & Eating Disorders: A Qualitative Study” was a collaboration with Dr. Catherine Cavaliere and her students at Dominican University.
RDs for Neurodiversity
In 2023, Sarah contributed a bonus video module on neurodiversity affirming practices from an occupational therapy perspective.
REEL 2e
Sarah was invited to speak for an online event hosted by REEL 2e in 2023 on the topic of neurodivergent relationships. The talk was titled “Living and Loving 2e: Managing Relationships in a Neurodivergent Family” and is available on YouTube.
Akkara Foundation
In 2022, Sarah, Alison Saraf of Learn Autism, and Stephen Shore of Adelphi University spoke about family-centered and strengths-based approaches to therapy for autistic individuals.
Georgia & Illinois Occupational Therapy Associations
Sarah and Diane Hilleary collaborated on a presentation that was accepted for the 2022 annual OT conferences in Georgia and Illinois. The presentation was entitled “Self-Compassion and Sensation: Dual strategies for regulation in the era of post-pandemic stress.”
Atlanta Center for Self-Compassion
Sarah led two workshops on neurodiversity and sensory processing differences for therapists in 2021 & 2022.
Northwest Georgia Healthcare Partnership
Sarah presented at NGHP’s 2019 Autism Conference. The title of her presentation was “The Lifelong Power of Sensation.”
USAutism Association
Sarah and Carrie Einck spoke about proprioception at the 2018 USAutism Association conference.
The STAR Institute
Sarah and Carrie Einck worked with STAR’s founder, Lucy Jane Miller, to establish a treatment program for adults with sensory processing disorder (SPD). Sarah and Carrie recorded a series of live videos between 2017-2019, which are available on social media. Sarah and Carrie also created an online course for adults in 2019 that is available through STAR’s Online Learning platform. Sarah and Rachel Whetstone presented for STAR’s 2017 Symposium parent workshop on SPD in adulthood.
Forsyth County Public Schools
Sarah led several teacher, school therapist, and parent trainings and workshops during her time as lead occupational therapist at FCPS from 2009-2014.
